What do you think makes MML unique from other private equity houses?

The people and the culture. It sounds cliché to say it, but when making the move from Dunedin, I interviewed and referenced with many private equity houses and MML stood out from the crowd; they have a truly unique culture. Our approach to investing is centred around partnership and working with people on a human level.

What do you believe is your most important role as an investor?

We are there to provide capital and strategic level support to grow value. The colour of money is all the same, so while many investors can provide capital, we combine that with strategic input to help unlock growth opportunities. We put our shoulder to the wheel and support the teams we partner with. This can mean being a sounding board for the CEO, helping execute acquisitions, improving digital marketing or supporting board level recruitment. We provide strategic level support without interfering operationally.

Name five things you could not live without.

Family, friends, good food, the outdoors, and I am ashamed to admit it, but my phone.

“It’s a real pleasure to work alongside Jessica on a transaction; she brings robust, commercial thinking and fresh ideas to the table. Jessica has continually demonstrated her ability to quickly understand complex business models and think strategically.”
