Jo Weir

Chief Compliance Officer

Jo graduated from the University of Liverpool with a BA (Hons) degree in Law and Business before obtaining her Master’s degree in International Business Law from Newcastle University. She began her career at Citi and later worked at Goldman Sachs. Prior to joining MML, Jo was Head of Compliance at private equity firm CapVest, where she was responsible for all aspects of the group’s compliance framework.

What most attracted you to joining the MML Capital team?

Everyone I spoke with before joining mentioned the brilliant culture and people, and as cliché as it sounds, the culture and people really do make MML a great place to work. The firm has an impressive track record and an exciting growth trajectory – I’m delighted to now be a part of it.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of the things I enjoy most about my role is the variety it entails. I get to work with intelligent and driven people across various teams and workstreams.

How did your career path bring you to work for a private equity house?

I started out working in public market compliance and regulatory reform roles at a couple of investment banks. While at Goldman Sachs, the opportunity arose for me to provide compliance coverage for some private market teams. I was fascinated by all parts of the investment process and the associated compliance points that can arise throughout. After a while, I decided to see what life was like at a private equity firm and made the move to CapVest. I really enjoyed my time there and it reinforced that I wanted to continue my career within private equity. And here I am!

What does life look like when you leave the office?

I love spending time outdoors – normally running (slowly!) or hiking.
