Meeting new businesses. No two are ever the same – every prospective investment opportunity we meet has its own success story, business model and ambitions. And the management teams who run each of those businesses have their own different styles and personalities. The variety in our job is huge; we’re very lucky.
First and foremost, it was the investment strategy and approach. In an increasingly crowded private equity market, MML’s partnership focus – not acting as owners of businesses but embracing the role of being supportive investors in them – really differentiates the firm versus its peers. It has also proven to be extremely successful.
As I met more of the MML team, it became apparent that the thoughtful, bespoke investment mindset was matched by the culture of the firm itself. MML is full of people who are highly intelligent and motivated – so are many private equity firms – but the MML team members were positive, open-minded and had a clear sense of fun too. I was excited about having the chance to work with them all.
And finally, there was the opportunity that Enterprise represented. The fund was a new product for MML, and it was really exciting for me to be able to join the team towards the start of that journey.
I spend as much time as possible with my wife and kids, and particularly enjoy cooking for family and friends. I also play tennis and golf whenever I can.
